All-purpose Hamburger Saute

What a boring name right? But it really is fitting. I must have food ready to go throughout the week or else weeknight dinner time can be a major FAIL.  On Sundays I prep and grill and roast so that there is always a tasty protein and ready to go veggies for busy weeknights. This hamburger is great for use in spaghetti (I use spaghetti squash as my “noodles”), as a breakfast component to sautéed zucchini, bell pepper, onion and mushrooms, for use in frittatas or quiche muffins… the list goes on!

All-purpose Hamburger Saute

  • 1.5 lbs hamburger
  • 1 onion minced
  • I cup carrots grated or diced (your preference)
  • 1 cup small diced mushrooms
  • 1 tablespoon Coconut oil
  • 2-4 cloves garlic minced
  • Salt and Pepper (to your liking)
  • Seasoning; 1 tsp each of Thyme, Rosemary, Oregano, Basil or if you have a good “Italian Mix” seasoning blend that should work well too
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

  1. Prep the veggies – wash, cut, dice, mince (I use a food processor)
  2. Heat a large sauté pan (mine is a 4 quart) with coconut oil
  3. When the coconut oil is melted, add the veggies and garlic sauté until the onions are soft/translucent
  4. Add the ground beef, breaking it up and mixing it into the veggies
  5. Add the seasonings; salt, pepper, thyme, rosemary, oregano, basil and balsamic vinegar
  6. Cook until the hamburger is completely done
  7. Now you have a delicious protein ready to go in a variety of dishes
